Cancer ♋︎ Adrianna Jarzębowska

From a seat next to Gemini, walking backward with its mighty claws, it grabs our Star and makes it stay on the horizon a bit longer. Thanks to the Cancer sign we can bathe in the warm rays like in someone's arms. Pure love is what this zodiac represents. Compassion for other people and well-taught emotional patterns can lead to amazing outcomes. Remember: sharing your journey is a must and only honest feelings can penetrate the shell of doubt.

The second sign, Cancer was interpreted by Ada Jarzębowska an illustrator and graphic artist from Poznańska Wilda. She’s passionate about drawing, cutting and gluing. In high school, she would burst with pride if she'd found out that one day she‘d got to design a skateboard deck. We are even more stoked to have her on board.

I joined the project last. I was surprised that the only zodiac left to choose was Cancer, which from the beginning was in my top 3 picks.

It appealed to me because I envisioned it in reds and roses, the color spaces in which I feel best creating with, and the form that fits into the shape of a longboard perfectly.

Apparently, Cancer is the most emphatic sign of all. It suits me very well - when designing, I could use my favorite colors without restrictions, which are commonly associated with love.

Speaking of love, Ada had a unique surrounding while creating.

The project was created partly in my makeshift pandemic office and on a children's mat, where, while creating a conceptual sketch, I tried to instill in my little son two teasers - drawing and skateboarding.

How cool is that? Thank you Ada for being the coach of the future skater artist. Sharing this precious time with a child must be a lofty moment.

Ada shared with us the sources of her inspiration:

Some time ago I came across the Mandala of Life (R. T. Prinke, L. Weres) - an intriguing book from the eighties, which was the first Polish scientific study on astrology.

I didn't understand much of it, but some images and concepts presented in it translated into an interest in the visual form of the zodiac and horoscopes. Designing the board, I gladly reached for those impressions. 

In addition, while drawing I watched a lot of Greek ceramics, especially from the geometrical period. Its important feature was the fit of the drawing to the shape of the dish it was covering.

I tried to use the Greek experience and design so that my drawing did not "fight" with the form of the board, but emphasized its shape accordingly.

These two inspirations have a common denominator: the signs of the zodiac come directly from the constellations, which in turn derive their names from mythology.
