Gemini ♊︎ Patrycja Podkościelny

Alternative Longboards x Zodiac project started in May 2020 with the first sign - Gemini, designed by an excellent Polish illustrator and graphic designer, Patrycja Podkościelny. We worked together before in 2015 when she created the first illustration for our boards. Hence, we were confident that Patrycja will make a grand opening of the project. And we were not mistaken.
Patrycja Podkościelny comes from Gdynia but lives and works in Gdańsk. She creates in a widely understood field of graphics, from lithography and illustration to graphic design and typography.
She conducts conferences, workshops, and lectures at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. You may know her work from Adobe, Nike, Netflix, Huffington Post, and Newsweek, and also see it outside of Poland in the USA, England, Japan, or China.
Patrycja creates in two workspaces. She turned her balcony into an office space and she also works at the lithography studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.
Each place has a completely different aura and purpose. Patrycja’s home office is filled with inspirational things, albums, polaroids, and plants, and very importantly: at first glance, it is not visible to visitors.
Only after entering the apartment deeper, you can notice it, so despite being connected with the living room, you can feel the boundary.
The studio at the academy is a space shared with other employees and students, so it is less personal. Some months Patrycja prefers sitting in her home office more often, but there are months when she hardly leaves the lithographic studio.
Although Patrycja doesn't believe in horoscopes, she likes the symbolism and mysticism surrounding them.
The Twins carry a very interesting message: balance in everything that surrounds us, in what we do, how we are. Nobody is just one thing, we embody contradictory qualities, complementary values, faith and knowledge, happiness and sadness.
It makes us human, and in balance we find peace.
We asked Patrycja what was her inspiration when she worked on an illustration for the Gemini sign:
A lot of things inspire me at the moment of work, but also a lot of things are sitting on the back of my head. I honestly admit that I did this work "in my own way" by answering a given topic, combining the atmosphere of Asian art with the motif of flora, which wakes up in May.
